How to set up Auto Answer and Call Forward with Jitsi Softphone

Jitsi Softphone also offers AUTO ANSWER CALLS and CALL FORWARDING functions, both of which are of great value in call centers. Remember that this function is not optimal for everyone, only for those who want to ALWAYS auto answer calls or forward calls with Jitsi, or for those who want to offer an automatic answer through the Jitsi softphone.

To configure it we go to TOOLS > AUTO ANSWER & CALL FORWARD > select the account we want to configure in Jitsi. In this case, we only have one account added to JITSI, so it will not show us more options.

tools-JITSI

When you have selected the account you want to configure you will get a new screen. Here you will be prompted to configure the auto answer and call forwarding options. Among the options of Auto answer or auto answer we must check the option of ALL CALLS. And finally, do not forget to OK to save the changes you have made.

If you want to activate the CALL FORWARDING feature with Jitsi, as you can see in the image above, below AUTO ANSWER CALLS on the Jitsi screen you will find the option.

To activate automatic call forwarding with Jitsi you just have to check the option and enter the phone number or URL to which you want all unanswered calls to be forwarded. And remember to hit OK when you are done, otherwise the changes will not be saved.

  • Hang up the call.

When making a call through Jitsi Softphone keep in mind that you may have the microphone off and therefore the other person or persons will not be able to hear you. For that reason, we recommend that you pay special attention to this and make sure you have the microphone activated. The situations are:

  • Microphone symbol crossed out: the microphone is deactivated and to activate it you must click on it.
  • Microphone symbol not crossed out: the microphone is activated and you can deactivate it by clicking on it.

And if you want to adjust the volume of the microphone in your conversation with the free Jitsi software just hold down the microphone symbol and you will get a vertical bar with which you can adjust the sound.

How to Transfer Calls with Jitsi Softphone?

With Jitsi softphone, during a call, you can perform call transfer in several ways: blind call transfer and attended call transfer. What does each one consist of?

Jitsi’s BLIND CALL TRANSFER consists of transferring a call to another extension without having previously spoken to the colleague to see if he/she is available. Therefore you will perform the call transfer with Jitsi without initiating a call with the final destination.

Jitsi’s CALL ATTENDED TRANSFER is when you have an initiated (attended) call which you put on hold to call a colleague’s extension to see if he is available. If he/she is available, you will go back to the first call and proceed to put the first call through to the colleague. If he is not, you will return to the first call and inform him that you cannot transfer the call because you are busy.

Let’s see then how each call transfer is performed with Jitsi’s free softphone.

How to do Blind Transfers with Jitsi?

When you are on an active call, you can transfer the call by pressing the “phone with the arrow pointing out” symbol that will appear at the bottom of the Jitsi call screen. Pressing the button will bring up a new screen.

The new Jitsi screen will be called Transfer call. In it you will need to enter the phone number to which you want to forward the call. When the second caller answers, we ask him if he accepts the call or not. In the case of accepting the call we go to the screen of the first call made with Jitsi and make a blind call transfer by selecting the phone number of the second call. Once you have selected it you can HANG the calls, but first hang up the second call and then the first one.

How to make Multiconferences with Jitsi?

multiconference-jitis

To make a conference call with Jitsi, the first thing to do is to start a conversation. To do this, you will need to call one of the members of the conference call you are going to make with Jitsi. When you have connected to the conversation, at the bottom of the call screen you must click on the “one person with a plus symbol” button. Now you will get a new screen.

jitsi softphone

The new screen will be called “Invite a contact to a call”. Here you must enter the phone number of the new participant and click the ADD button that will appear at the bottom of the left column. Once you have added the contact, the contact will move to the right column and then you should click the INVITE button.

If you have done it correctly, the Jitsi conference call will show you a screen like the one shown above. Here you can see the participants’ phone numbers and whether they are connected or not. When you have finished the conference call, just click on the COLLARGE button and the Jitsi 3 way call will be finished.

As you may have noticed, downloading, installing and configuring the Jitsti softphone is very simple. With the rest of the operating systems it is just as simple, although you may find some variations in the names and steps to follow.

At Gesditel we work to make your work in the company easier and to achieve better results. We hope this information has been very useful and that you have been able to learn how to configure your softphone without difficulty.
